As Palavras Interditas
Anoitece. Não há dúvida, anoitece.
É preciso partir, é preciso ficar.
Os hospitais cobrem-se de cinza.
Ondas de sombra quebram nas esquinas.
Amo-te... E abrem-se janelas
mostrando a brancura das cortinas.
As palavras que te envio são interditas
até, meu amor, pelo halo das searas;
E a noite cresce apaixonadamente.

Qu'on attrape là-bas
Le bon ni le mauvais
Ne me feraient de peine
Si si si je savais
Que j'en aurai l'étrenne
Et il y a z aussi
Tout ce que je connais
Tout ce que j'apprécie
Que je sais qui me plaît
Le fond vert de la mer
Où valsent les brins d'algues
Sur le sable ondulé
L'herbe grillée de juin
La terre qui craquelle
L'odeur des conifères
Et les baisers de celle
Que ceci que cela
La belle que voilà
Mon Ourson, l'Ursula
Je voudrais pas crever
Avant d'avoir usé
Sa bouche avec ma bouche
Son corps avec mes mains
Le reste avec mes yeux
J'en dis pas plus faut bien
Rester révérencieux
Je voudrais pas mourir
Sans qu'on ait inventé
Les roses éternelles
La journée de deux heures
La mer à la montagne
La montagne à la mer
La fin de la douleur
Les journaux en couleur
Tous les enfants contents
Et tant de trucs encore
Qui dorment dans les crânes
Des géniaux ingénieurs
Des jardiniers joviaux
Des soucieux socialistes
Des urbains urbanistes
Et des pensifs penseurs
Tant de choses à voir
A voir et à z-entendre
Tant de temps à attendre
A chercher dans le noir
Et moi je vois la fin
Qui grouille et qui s'amène
Avec sa gueule moche
Et qui m'ouvre ses bras
De grenouille bancroche
Je voudrais pas crever
Non monsieur non madame
Avant d'avoir tâté
Le goût qui me tourmente
Le goût qu'est le plus fort
Je voudrais pas crever
Avant d'avoir goûté
La saveur de la mort...
Boris Vian
Esta é a parte a reter:
Je voudrais pas crever

Last Year's Words Belong To Last Year's Language

I said: 'The wonder that I feel is easy,
Yet ease is cause of wonder. Therefore speak:
I may not comprehend, may not remember.'
And he: 'I am not eager to rehearse
My thoughts and theory which you have forgotten.
These things have served their purpose: let them be.
So with your own, and pray they be forgiven
By others, as I pray you to forgive
Both bad and good. Last season's fruit is eaten
And the fullfed beast shall kick the empty pail.
For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.

Thames Town: China’s new Suburbia

Thames town is an English style new satellite town built close to Shanghai as part of the local governments ‘One City –Nine Towns’ plan.
The rise of China’s new middle ‘class’ is resulting in the creation of a new suburbia, the same phenomenon as seen in post-war Britain and America. Now that disposable incomes are reaching levels that allow people to pay for better education, annual holidays and private accommodation, the landscape of China is changing in the same manner as seen in the West. This is China’s suburban revolution.

Interessante (e bonita), esta realidade fabricada.
I tell you Winston, that reality is not external. Reality exists in the human mind, and nowhere else. Not in the individual mind, which can make mistakes, and in any case soon perishes: only in the mind of the party, which is collective and immortal. Whatever the party holds to be truth, is truth. It is impossible to see reality except by looking through the eyes of the Party.

An Oak Tree

Q. To begin with, could you describe this work?
A. Yes, of course. What I've done is change a glass of water into a full-grown oak tree without altering the accidents of the glass of water.
Q. The accidents?
A. Yes. The colour, feel, weight, size ...
Q. Do you mean that the glass of water is a symbol of an oak tree?
A. No. It's not a symbol. I've changed the physical substance of the glass of water into that of an oak tree.
Q. It looks like a glass of water.
A. Of course it does. I didn't change its appearance. But it's not a glass of water, it's an oak tree.
Q. Can you prove what you've claimed to have done?
A. Well, yes and no. I claim to have maintained the physical form of the glass of water and, as you can see, I have. However, as one normally looks for evidence of physical change in terms of altered form, no such proof exists.
Q. Haven't you simply called this glass of water an oak tree?
A. Absolutely not. It is not a glass of water anymore. I have changed its actual substance. It would no longer be accurate to call it a glass of water. One could call it anything one wished but that would not alter the fact that it is an oak tree.
Q. Isn't this just a case of the emperor's new clothes?
A. No. With the emperor's new clothes people claimed to see something that wasn't there because they felt they should. I would be very surprised if anyone told me they saw an oak tree.
Q. Was it difficult to effect the change?
A. No effort at all. But it took me years of work before I realised I could do it.
Q. When precisely did the glass of water become an oak tree?
A. When I put the water in the glass.
Q. Does this happen every time you fill a glass with water?
A. No, of course not. Only when I intend to change it into an oak tree.
Q. Then intention causes the change?
A. I would say it precipitates the change.
Q. You don't know how you do it?
A. It contradicts what I feel I know about cause and effect.
Q. It seems to me that you are claiming to have worked a miracle. Isn't that the case?
A. I'm flattered that you think so.
Q. But aren't you the only person who can do something like this?
A. How could I know?
Q. Could you teach others to do it?
A. No, it's not something one can teach.
Q. Do you consider that changing the glass of water into an oak tree constitutes an art work?
A. Yes.
Q. What precisely is the art work? The glass of water?
A. There is no glass of water anymore.
Q. The process of change?
A. There is no process involved in the change.
Q. The oak tree?
A. Yes. The oak tree.
Q. But the oak tree only exists in the mind.
A. No. The actual oak tree is physically present but in the form of the glass of water. As the glass of water was a particular glass of water, the oak tree is also a particular oak tree. To conceive the category 'oak tree' or to picture a particular oak tree is not to understand and experience what appears to be a glass of water as an oak tree. Just as it is imperceivable it also inconceivable.
Q. Did the particular oak tree exist somewhere else before it took the form of a glass of water?
A. No. This particular oak tree did not exist previously. I should also point out that it does not and will not ever have any other form than that of a glass of water.
Q. How long will it continue to be an oak tree?
A. Until I change it.
"An Oak Tree", Michael Craig-Martin (1973).
In other words belief underlies our whole experience of art: it accounts for why some people are artists and others are not, why some people dismiss works of art others highly praise, and why something we know to be great does not always move us.

Steve and Steve

Jobs and the NeXT board of directors meet in the company's Fremont factory in 1987. Ross Perot, the Texas entrepreneur who later ran for U.S. president, is seated third from the end in a dark suit and tie, directly across from Jobs. Perot provided venture capital for NeXT.
NeXT was founded in 1985 by Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs after his forced resignation from Apple. NeXT introduced the first NeXT Computer in 1988, and the smaller NeXTstation in 1990.
Several developers used the NeXT platform to write pioneering programs. Tim Berners-Lee used a NeXT Computer in 1991 to create the first web browser and web server. In the early 1990s John Carmack used a NeXTcube to build two of his pioneering games, Wolfenstein 3D and Doom.
Apple purchased NeXT on December 20, 1996 for $429 million, and much of the current Mac OS X system is built on the OPENSTEP foundation.

Should the Nazis succeed

The poster was initially produced in 1939 during the beginning of World War II, and was intended as a "last case scenario" to be used only should the Nazis succeed in invading Great Britain, in order to stiffen resolve.

The third man argument (commonly referred to as TMA), first offered by Plato in his dialogue Parmenides, is a philosophical criticism of Plato's own theory of Forms. The argument posits that if a man is a man because he partakes in the form of man, then a third form would be required to explain how man and the form of man are both man.

It has gradually become clear to me what every great philosophy up till now has consisted of, namely, the confession of its originator, and a species of involuntary and unconscious autobiography; and moreover that the moral (or immoral) purpose of every philosophy has constituted the true vital germ our of which the entire plant has always grown.

Ian Fisher: American Soldier

E eu estou irritado por isto me irritar.)

Sarajevo roses
During the four-year siege of the Bosnian capital city of Sarajevo, hundreds of thousands of bombs rained upon the city from the surrounding hills. Every shell exploding on a road or paved area left an imprint resembling that of a flower. Today, some of these craters remain, their 'petals' painted red and referred to as 'Sarajevo roses' by its citizens, like scars on the heart, a reminder of the innocent blood that was spilled on these streets.

There's some evidence, by the way, that some things, like social networking, help do that. Because they help people share news, they give badge value to everyday little trivial activities, so they actually reduce the need for expending great money on display and increase the third party enjoyment you can get from the smallest, simplest things in life.

Afghanistan: chronotopia

Mikhail Bakhtin might have called this kind of landscape a "chronotope": a place that allows movement through space and time simultaneously, a place that displays the "layeredness" of time. The chronotopia of Afganistan is like a mirror, shattered and thrown into the mud of the past; the shards are glittering fragments, echoing previous civilizations and lost greatness.
What these landscape have in common - their basis in war - is fundamentally downplayed in our society. I was astounded to discover that the long, straight, bustling, commercial road that runs through my old neighborhood of London follows an old Roman road. [...] Crucially, the road system built by the Romans was their highest military technology, their equivalent of the stealth bomber [...] - a technology that allowed a huge empire to be maintained by a relatively small army. [...] It is extraordinary that London, a city that should be shaped by Tudor kings, the British Empire, Victorian engineers and modern international Finance, is a city fundamentally drawn, even to this day, by abandoned Roman military hardware.
Losing My Edge
LCD Soundsystem, Losing My Edge (DFA, 2002).
And to be honest I was afraid that this new found coolness was going to go away and that’s where ‘Losing My Edge’ comes from. It is about being horrified by my own silliness. And then it became a wider thing about people who grip onto other people’s creations like they are their own. There is a lot of pathos in that character though because it’s born out of inadequacy and love.

Untitled
Interpol, Turn On The Bright Lights (Matador, 2002).
The difference, however, lies in the music itself: what Joy Division played was sparse and jagged-- punk with a melancholy, but often minimalist bent. Interpol, meanwhile, are punk in ethic alone; their music bears few of that genre's signatures, with the band instead immersing themselves in a grander, more theatrical atmosphere with lush production that counters their frustrated bombast.

Parar
My name is Dwayne Hoover and I am an experiment by the creator of the universe. I am the only creature in the entire universe who has free will. I am the only creature who has to figure out what to do next and why. Everybody else is a robot.
I am pooped. I wish I were a robot too. It is perfectly exhausting having to reason all the time in a universe I never made.
Breakfast of Champions, Kurt Vonnegut.

Narcissism of small differences
The Narcissism of small differences is a term coined by Sigmund Freud in 1917, based on the earlier work of British anthropologist Ernest Crawley.
The term describes the manner in which our negative feelings are sometimes directed at people who resemble us, while we take pride from the "small differences" that distinguish us from them.
The term appeared in Civilization and Its Discontents (1929-1930) in relation to the application of the inborn aggression in man in ethnic conflict.
Glen O. Gabbard, M.D. suggested Freud's "Narcissism of Small Difference" provides a framework within which to understand that in a loving relationship there can be a need to find, and even exaggerate, differences in order to preserve a feeling of separateness and self.
"Não acho que somos de mundos diferentes".
Nem eu. E se formos, seremos exploradores.

Goodbye Norma Jean
If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.).
